Common Name: Nicaraguan Epidendrum
Native to: Nicaragua. Epidendrum nicaraguense is endemic to Nicaraguan cloud forests between 1300 and 1600 meters in elevation and has a rather limited distribution. This species grows on trees and occasionally on rocks.
Plant Size: Large. Epidendrum nicaraguense has upright, reed-like stems with tree leaves that are located towards the tip.
Flower Size: 1.25 inches (3 cm)
Flower Description: The flower color ranges from pink to brown with white on the lip. Epidendrum nicaraguense produces up to 15 flowers on a five inch (22.5 cm) flower stem that forms at the top of each maturing growth. All the flowers open at the same time and they have a sweet fragrance during the evening and night.

Additional Information: Epidendrum nicaraguense is an attractive plant with fragrant flowers. Provide warm and humid growing conditions. Grow the plant mounted on cork bark or tree fern. It may also be grown in a slatted basket. Epidendrum nicaraguense is closely related to Epidendrum magnificum and Epidendrum polychromum.
