Native to: Northern Ecuador and southern Columbia. Epidendrum gastropodium generally grows on trees in mountain cloud forests between 1500 and 3500 meters in elevation.
Plant Size: Small. The stems of Epidendrum gastropodium are erect and reed-like and swollen. Many times the stems are branched. Many stiff leaves cling tightly to the stem.
Flower Size: Small (about 1 cm)
Flower Description: Flowers are small and borne in clusters of nine to twelve. All the flowers open at the same time.
Bloom Season: Epidendrum gastropodium can bloom any time of the year.
Growing Temperature: Cool
Additional Information: Epidendrum gastropodium was first discovered in 1854. Grow mounted on cork or tree fern slabs or in pots with good drainage and orchid growing media. Provide cool, humid conditions with adequate air circulation for best growth.
