Common Name: Lakeside Orchid
Native to: Costa Rica, Panama, Nicaragua, Columbia, Ecuador, Peru, Venezuela. Epidendrum lacustre grows on trees in wet forests between 700 and 2700 meters in elevation. Occasionally it is found growing as a terrestrial plant.
Plant Size: Medium to Large. Epidendrum lacustre has reed-like stems that have alternating leaves.
Flower Size: 3 inches (7.5 cm)
Flower Description: The flowers of Epidendrum lacustre are large for the species. Several flowers are produced on a 4 inch (10 cm) terminal flower spike.
Bloom Season: Spring
Growing Temperature: Warm to Cool
Additional Information: Grow Epidendrum lacustre mounted on a slab or grow in a slatted basket or pot. This species is variable, adaptable and tolerant of many different growing programs. Typical Cattleya growing conditions are suitable. It was first described to science in 1853.
