Barkeria lindleyana

Native to: Barkeria lindleyana is native from Mexico south to Costa Rica. It is found growing in semi-deciduous and deciduous forests between 200 and 2500 meters.

Plant Size: Small to Miniture. The pseudobulbs of Barkeria lindleyana are somewhat square and cane-like. There are several thin leaves at the top of the pseudobulb and the base is covered by many dry sheaths.

Flower Size: 2 inches to 3 inches (5-6 cm)

Flower Description: The flower stem emerges from a mature pseudobulb in the fall and produces between 5 and 20 flowers. The flowers of Barkeria lindleyana are purple to lilac and are quite attractive. Sepals and petals reflex back around the column. Sepals are twice as wide as petals. The lip is white with a darker spot and the base of the lip is heart-shaped. Also, there are keels running down the length of the lip.

Additional Information: Grow Barkeria lindleyana on a branch or a slab. The plant is deciduous and lose their leaves for the winter. Provide a dry, bright rest period. One source advises not watering more than once per week while the plant is dormant.
