Encyclia kennedyi
Common Name: Kennedy's Encyclia
Native to: Mexico. Encyclia kennedyi is found growing in mixed oak-pine forest habitats in the Mexican states of Durango and Sinaloa between 1800 and 2000 meters in elevation.
Plant Size: Medium. The pseudobulbs bear two leaves.
Flower Size: 1 inch (2.5 cm)
Flower Description: Encyclia kennedyi produces an unbranched flower stem in the spring that bears up to twelve reddish flowers. There is a conspicuous vein on the lip that distinguishes it from closely related Encyclia adenocaula.
Bloom Season: Late Spring to Early Summer
Growing Temperature: Intermediate
Additional Information: Encyclia kennedyi is similar to Encyclia adenocaula but is distinguished by some minor floral differences (i.e. lip details and flower color). Grow mounted on cork bark or tree fern. Provide bright light and a drier winter rest period like other Mexican species from the same region.
