Encyclia huertae
Common Name: Ground-dwelling Encyclia, Huerta's Encyclia
Native to: Mexico. Encyclia huertae is found growing on lava rocks in oak and tropical forests. Sometimes it is found growing on trees. It prefers habitats between 600 and 1900 meters in elevation.
Plant Size: Large. Encyclia huertae has large, cone-shaped pseudobulbs that have one arching strap-like leaf.
Flower Size: 1.5 inches (3.75 cm)
Flower Description: Flowers bloom on an upright, tall inflorescence that has many flowers and grows to 48 inches (120 cm).
Bloom Season: Summer
Growing Temperature: Warm to Cool
Additional Information: This species was named after a Mexican orchid enthusiast who collected Mexican orchids in the 20th century. Grow in a pot with an open growing media, slatted basket, or mounted on a large piece of cork or wood. Provide Cattleya growing conditions with brighter light. This species is large and impressive when in bloom.
