Laelia longipes

Native to: Brazil. Rupicolous. Laelia longipes is native to mountains above 1300 meters east of Belo Horizonte in the state of Minas Gerais.

Plant Size: Small. The miniture plants of Laelia longipes have compact 2-4 cm pseudobulbs that have a single 3-5 cm erect leaf. New growths are produced close to the last growth making the plant compact.

Flower Size: 2 1/4 inches (5 cn)

Flower Description: Small, brightly colored flowers of Laelia longipes range from pink to rose-lavender. the lip is darker than the petals and has a yellow or golden yellow throat. The flower spike is short and barely extends beyond the foliage and bears two to four flowers.

Bloom Season: Summer, Fall

Growing Temperature: Cool to Intermediate

Additional Information: This compact species is attractive and can become an impressive (if small) specimen plant with age. Grow Laelia longipes like other rupicolous laelias in an inorganic potting mix. Provide a dry winter rest.
