Common Name: Swollen Fruit Encyclia Orchid


Native to: Mexico to Central America north of Nicaragua. This species is usually found in dry habitats and deciduous forests. Sometimes it is found growing on cacti close to the ocean. Encyclia adenocarpa grows from sea level to 1200 meters in elevation.

Plant Size: Medium. Encyclia adenocarpa has tightly clustered cone-shaped pseudobulbs that have two or three long, narrow leaves.

Flower Size: Small.

Flower Description: The flowers are typical in shape for the genus. Encyclia adenocarpa bears a few to lots of flowers on simple or branched flower spikes that extend beyond the foliage. Flowers are well displayed. Fragrant.

Additional Information: Encyclia adenocarpa is an interesting Mexican and Central American Encyclia species. The plants grow to form nice specimens with time and the flowers are well-displayed. Grow mounted on cork or in slatted baskets. Let plants dry between water. This species may require more light than standard Cattleya conditions.
