Native to: Encyclia albopurpurea is native to the Tapajos river basin in the Brazilian state of Para. It was found growing on calabash trees.


Plant Size: Small to Medium. Encyclia albopurpurea has oval pseudobulbs and two or three long, narrow leaves. The flower stem is tall and bears multiple flowers that stand well above the foliage.

Flower Size: Large (for an Encyclia)

Flower Description: The flowers of Encyclia albopurpurea are large and yellow-brown to off-white and have well-defined carmine veins on the petals and sepals. Some individuals have maroon markings on the base. The lip is saddle-shaped and white. The flowers are quite fragrant and smell like vanilla.

Bloom Season: Spring (September in Brazil)

Growing Temperature: Intermediate

Additional Information: Grow under Cattleya conditions and provide intermediate to warm temperatures. Encyclia albopurpurea blooms in the spring. This species is beautiful but rare.
