Common Name: Purple Epidendrum Orchid
Native to: Columbia, Ecuador. Epidendrum porphyreum grows on trees or as a terrestrial plant on steep sites in wet mountain forests between 1800 to 3900 meters in elevation.
Plant Size: Medium. The plant has thin reed-like stems with many thin leaves.
Flower Size: 0.5 inches (1 cm)
Flower Description: The flowers of Epidendrum porphyreum are lilac-purple and very beautiful. The flowers are produced on arching, branched stems that grow to 5 inches (12.5 cm).
Bloom Season: Spring, Fall
Growing Temperature: Cool
Additional Information: Grow Epidendrum porphyreum mounted on cork bark or grow in a pot with a terrestrial orchid mix. This species produces lots of beautiful flowers on attractive arching flower stems. Mature specimens are very impressive.
